Wedding planning typically begins with lengthly venue research which can be fun but also time consuming. Determining the “where” is a critical first step to building the foundation for the rest of your event planning efforts. You’ll need to select a location for the ceremony as well as one for the reception if both can’t take place at the same venue due to other bookings, space availability, public access and/or cost. With no shortage of breathtaking views, sunny vistas, and lush gardens available throughout BC, picking a ceremony location is the easy part. What’s more difficult is finding the perfect private reception venue that aligns with the look and feel you want to achieve on your big day. Whether you’re looking for a boho vibe, classic vintage decor scheme, or backyard BBQ feel, we’ve got you covered. We’re all about saving you time by making your event planning process as efficient as possible, so to kick off the wedding planning reviews we’re doing this month, we’ve put together a list of our favourite reception venues throughout BC.

The Permanent

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a venue arrive on the Vancouver scene with such fanfare. Slated to open at the end of the month, we had the pleasure of doing a hard hat tour of the space back in April while it was in the middle of a major restoration. Originally built in the 20th century with a classic “temple bank” architectural style, this venue has all the heritage charm you’re looking for and more! Majestic columns framing a stunning original wood doorway will set the stage as your guests arrive. Once inside your guests will be mesmerized by the 35 foot long by 20 foot wide stained glass skylight, intricate mosaic tile floor, gorgeous crown mouldings, plaster walls, original bank vault door, gorgeous stained glass widows and a mezzanine fit for Romeo and Juliet. A grand space for a truly elegant affair.

Location: Vancouver BC, Downtown

Max Capacity: 279 ppl

The Roof at Black + Blue

Does every wedding need to include a sit down dinner? We think not! Tray-passed food and a mingling atmosphere are completely acceptable in this day and age where stuffy traditions from the past are making an exit. If an urban, chic, party vibe is what you’re all about, then The Roof is an ideal setting to host your wedding reception. Located on the 3rd floor of Black + Blue Restaurant, this lounge space takes the Vancouver patio scene to the next level with glass fire pits, illuminated cubes, scattered seating areas with wild furnishings, and ultra-modern lighting fixtures above an expansive bar. Who says you can’t bring sexy back at your wedding!?

Location: Vancouver BC, Downtown

Max Capacity: 120 ppl

A floating facility on the Fraser River with awe-inspiring views of the North Shore Mountains, the John M.S Lecky UBC Boathouse is an architecturally stunning building. Soaked in natural light, the indoor event hall has a spacious modern design with a cedar roof, steel posts, and an oversized outdoor terrace. If you’re in love with the idea of celebrating your marriage near (or in this case on) the water, but want to avoid the challenges of hosting onboard a vessel, then this is your perfect venue.

Location: Richmond BC

Max Capacity: 190 ppl
