Everything from woodworking shops to cafes and retail establishments are now offering up their store-fronts for special events outside of their regular business hours. With so many great one-of-a-kind after hours event venues in Vancouver, choosing where to host your function can be difficult!

Here are our favourite unique event spaces in Vancouver that transform after hours!

#1: Cafe Medina

One of our favourite brunch places, Cafe Medina offers Mediterranean-inspired breakfast and lunch options during the day, while serving up style and rustic elegance for events in the evenings. Their space boasts high ceilings, up-scale lighting fixtures, antique mirrors, vintage decor, traditional deco moulding and also comes equipped with a full drop-down screen and multimedia capabilities. Their venue is perfect for any type of celebration, reception, dinner, presentation or corporate evening. And just because eggs are their speciality during the day doesn’t mean that’s all they can offer your guests by night. Chef Deniz Tarakcioglu, has designed an array of seasonal menu options including a variety of canapés and main course offerings.

#2: Frontier Flooring

Located near Cambie Village, Frontier Flooring’s studio embodies the airy-ness, beauty and clean lines of a modern gallery. So much so, that it’s almost hard to imagine that their primary business is to sell specialty flooring, especially with how artfully they’ve chosen to display the flooring products. Can you just imagine your next reception in this space? It’s the perfect blank canvas for a chic, modern affair.

#3: Union Wood Company

Also known as The Woodshop at BonAccord, Union Wood Company creates custom reclaimed wood furniture pieces by day and rents out their wood shop area by night for all types of events. While their event space requires a bit of imagination, everything from wedding receptions to product launches, long table dinners and more have been created in their shop. The high ceilings, room length and industrial look, coupled with the perfect floor plan and decor touches make for an intriguing environment your guests will never forget!

#4: Ed’s Daily Commissary

Once a hotel and pool parlour with a spirited past, Ed’s Daily Commissary has been a bright addition to Strathcona’s Railtown District. In the daytime they are a delicious eatery but in the evening (or on the weekends) their venue can be transformed into the perfect event space! Whether you’re looking to put on a yoga class or wanting to host a client event, Ed’s Daily is a great option because of the existing decorative touches – funky geometric flooring, cedar accents, dark grey walls and minimalist plant displays. They also have a fully-equipped, onsite kitchen where they operate a catering company called Cocktails and Canapes Catering so food and beverage for your event is a breeze! If you’re looking for a more interactive event, they also offer cooking activities and chef demos.

#5: Landyachtz Factory Store

Ever thought about a retail space for your next event? While not every retail establishment is open to facilitating this, it never hurts to ask! Using a retail outlet as your event space can be beneficial, because some store themes have a particular appeal to a certain demographic or age group.  For example, Landyachtz Factory Store happens to be one of our favourites for throwing an event targeted towards new tech start-ups or a 20 – 30 year old demographic or for a throwback themed event. Why? Because their store is reminiscent of teenage angst and even includes vintage arcade games with the rental of their store. As soon as guests arrive they are overtaken by the chill skateboarder vibe setting a casual, relaxing, and nostalgic tone for the evening.

Office space by day, event space by night! Donnelly Group’s head office is an exciting after hours event space that comes with all the bells and whistles. #7: Pallet Roasters

Who doesn’t love a good coffee house? With new spots popping-up every day, Vancouver is becoming known for cute and cozy coffee venues. Facilitating more than just good java, these establishments make for great networking hubs and entertaining spaces after hours. While it can’t hurt to talk to your local coffee shop to see if they’ll accommodate your event, Pallet Roasters regularly rents out their space for events.

  • Neighbourhood: Grandview-Woodland – Vancouver, BC
  • Event Capacity: 95 people
  • Event Booking Hours: Anytime after 3pm Monday – Friday and after 4pm Saturday & Sunday

#8: L’Atelier

L’Atelier Vancouver is a newer co-working and networking hub centrally located in Gastown, close to the Dunsmuir skytrain entrance of the City Centre Canada Line. During the 9am-5pm grind they rent out their desks and meeting rooms to freelance professionals and small businesses, but after regular business hours they rent their venue out for intimate affairs. Their space is beautifully styled and offers diverse seating arrangement options that are best suited to workshops, classes, meetings or small mingler events. Rentals also include a kitchen area.

  • Neighbourhood: Gastown – Vancouver, BC
  • Event Capacity: 40 people
  • Event Booking Hours: 5:30pm – 9:00pm Monday – Friday and 9:00am – 9:00pm Saturday & Sunday
  • Minimum Cost: $85 – $100 per hour (2 hour minimum weekdays, 4 hour minimum weekends)

Not loving that most of these spaces only offer evening options? Then City Side Winery is the perfect option for you. Their regular business operating hours are from 4:30pm – 11:30pm and so can accommodate any daytime meetings or functions. They even have an in-house kitchen and can facilitate catering requests and staffing needs. Plus their beautiful 700 sq ft. tasting hall and lounge is conveniently located near the Olympic Village skytrain station making for easy travel to and from the event.

  • Neighbourhood: Mount Pleasant – Vancouver, BC
  • Event Capacity: 50 people
  • Event Booking Hours: 8:00am – 3:00pm Tuesday – Saturday and anytime Sunday & Monday (Note: They are open to requests for flexibility outside of these hours)
